With the support of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights, EuroMed Rights Tunisia, Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center, the Danish Institute for Human Rights, the Danish Institute against Torture and Friedrich Ebert, the “Fourth Regional Forum of Independent Public bodies” was organized on November 23, 2019 in Djerba, Tunisia.
The meeting was held with the presence of presidents of The National Authority for Access to Information (INAI), The Higher Committee on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (CSDHLF), the Anti-Corruption Instance (INLUCC), the National Authority for the Prevention of Torture (INPT), the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data (INAI), The National Commission for the fight against human trafficking.
The forum brought together 100 participants and representatives of various civil society organisations, and regional authorities from the southeast gouvernorats.
This regional forum comes as an implementation of the recommendations emanating from the first annual forum of the Association of Independent Public bodies held in Hammamet on December, 2018.
The meeting was an opportunity to highlight the role of independent public bodies as a pillar of democracy and a guarantee of human rights and freedoms, to present these independent public bodies in the interior regions of the country, their tasks, achievements, and challenges faced with civil society organizations. Thus, the forum was intended to discuss and to search for new ways to develop coordination programs and networking with local civil society organizations.
