On December 24th and 25, 2020, Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center organized, in cooperation with the Ministry of Relations with Constitutional Bodies and Civil Society, a workshop on “completing the drafting of the new fundamental law related to audiovisual communication and the audiovisual communication authority” in Tunis.
Ms. Thouraya Jeribi and Mr. Amine Ghali, director of Al-Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center, opened the workshop attended by representatives of the relevant ministries, experts who contributed to the drafting of the bill and representatives of the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HAICA).
The workshop was divided into five minor sessions dedicated to the reading of the new draft of the fundamental law related to audiovisual communication, the audiovisual communication authority, audiovisual communication facilities, penalties and violations and a final reading of the fundamental law bill.
The workshop was an important opportunity to converge views between the different institutions relevant to the process of the independent public bodies in order to come up with a unified vision and to complete the drafting of the new fundamental law bill on freedom of audiovisual communication and the structure of the audiovisual communication authority as well as determining its jurisdiction. The bill would be submitted to the Head of Government then to the House of Representatives.
The workshop falls under the Center’s support for the Ministry’s efforts in relation to the work of the independent public bodies especially the legal and regulatory aspects.
