Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center organized, in cooperation with Search for Common Ground, a workshop on “media coverage of security sector reform and governance topics” on 25, 26 and 27 December 2020 in the Russelior Hotel, Hammamet.
The workshop falls under the second part of “supporting civic and media participation in the neighborhood police approach” project, which started in 2016. A number of journalists from different media outlets as well as community radio journalists took part in the workshop in order to improve their understanding of the project and of the security sector reform’s processes, which are part of the neighborhood police approach.
The workshop was an opportunity to strengthen the journalists’ capacities in dealing with the issue of security sector reform, which was adopted by the Ministry of Interior as part of neighborhood police approach. The journalists were also introduced to the main projects that have been implemented in Tunis, Bizerte, Sousse, Mednine and Ben Guerdane.
Within the same framework, a new journalistic writing style was presented in order to address security sector reform and governance topics. Thus, explaining and simplifying this approach to the reader or the receiver so that he/she could participate in the local community initiatives. This might improve citizen and police relationship and create an atmosphere of trust opening the door for collaboration on local security challenges.
