Mena Transitional Justice Academy II
Workshop III (Tunis-November, 04-08 2019)
In partnership with the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience(ICSC) and in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR),Policy Group Public International Law (PILPG),the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation (FAFG), Kawakibi Democracy Transition Centerorganized a third training workshop within the framework of Mena Transitional Justice Academy II held on November, 04-08 2019 in Tunis.
The workshopwas attended by a group of participants from different countries from the Arab region (Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Iraq, Syria and Yemen).
During the training, partners of the coalition held different presentations tackling many themes related to transitional justice studied from different contexts. Participants conducted presentations about their small projects, shedding the light on the impact, lessons learned from their experiences and the challenges.
As part of the training, the group visited a siteof memory in Tunisia, a former prison called “ElKarekka” in GharElMelh Bizerte,which embodies a history of persecutions and human rights violations by the French colonizer followed later by the regime of Habib Bourguiba. The visit aimed to reflect on the Tunisian experience and collective memory in the context of transitional justicethat the country passed through during the democratic transition period.
At the end of this workshop, participants received certificates of appreciation.
